City of South Gate General Plan

City of South Gate

The Mobility Group completed the Mobility Element of the City of South Gate’s recent update of the City’s General Plan.  We were heavily involved in extensive community outreach and participation efforts in the preparation of a mobility element to improve multi-modal circulation in the city that addressed transit, bicycles, and pedestrians as well as vehicular circulation.  The Mobility Element developed roadway characteristic and configuration prototypes and cross sections for the major corridors in the City, to reflect the needs of adjacent land uses and multi-modal transportation.  The Mobility Group assisted the City of South Gate in incorporating goals and policies for the Orangeline into the General Plan, as well as identifying the potential station site at Firestone Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue for a multi-modal transportation center and bicycle hub.  We also worked to develop and recommend concepts with regard to transportation access and circulation for a station in that location, including proposed street improvements for better auto and transit access, as well as bicycle network connections.
